Review of the SPDIF Digital Coaxial Cable, edited by Lorenzo Vivarelli, in issue 576 of the SUONO magazine of October 2023.
The author, after having raised readers’ awareness of the importance of the cable for transporting the digital signal in music reproduction, giving it greater weight than the analogue connection, describes in detail the technical characteristics of the coaxial digital cable, underlining the attention to high quality materials and to the proprietary design present in the Soundcheck cable.
As already seen in the SUONO review of the LSP speaker cable, also in this case an external covering in natural blue cotton is used while the digital flow flows underneath thanks to a section of 12 AWG (but the cable is very flexible!) formed by a proprietary variable section geometry composed of two conductors called “LCOF” in pure silver-plated copper with the joint of a copper screen sock subjected to the same treatment.
The two RCA Switchcraft PRO connectors are made of pure copper subjected to a tin bath protected from external agents with an antioxidant surface treatment: stability and durability over time are therefore guaranteed.
Turning to the analysis of the cable under test, the author compares the experience of using the new cable with a previous very high price model, underlining the satisfaction and the perceived value of the new purchase:
… And so here I am inserting the digital cable between the mechanics and the 47 Labs converter, setting aside the Goldmund Reference Digital that I usually use; at the time, the said cable represented one of the jewels in the crown of the Swiss company and had a very high price…
… With respect to my reference, I admit that some details regarding the scene are lost, with a reduction in oxygenation, if we want to define it in no uncertain terms, while the difference in the stamp is identifiable in lower analysis but, honestly, the result is also of excellent quality: if I had not been informed of the final sale price, I would have valued it much higher…
Finally, the author expresses very positive impressions about listening to music using the Soundcheck digital cable, highlighting a balanced and pleasantly relaxed sound performance, with a remarkable reconstruction of the sound environment and a convincing performance:
…The coaxial digital cable produced by Soundcheck Audio, I reiterate, is really well made: you understand that there has been so much listening behind by the designers and, in fact, those who buy it buy great added value, both for quality and quantity of results, as well as at a price that, for this sector, can also seem ridiculous.
…A real Big Deal.
